W.L. Gore & Associates discontinues
Reading Fire Equipment has recently been advised by W. L. Gore & Associates, manufacturer-supplier of moisture barriers, that they are in the process of discontinuing the CROSSTECH® White moisture barrier and replacing it with Crosstech® Black. The big differences are that the Black is more durable and its color.
To facilitate the transition, we will start switching our customers specs to the new Crosstech® Black immediately. Please note that effective January 1, 2012 all orders received will be switched to the new Crosstech® Black, Good News is Morning Pride will not be increasing the pricing of the new moisture barriers from your current one.
What's the difference between Crosstech® Black (Nomex® PJC)
Crosstech® Black offers the same performance and technical specifications as the discontinued White model with extra durability. The only physical difference between the two moisture barriers is the color of the Crosstech membrane, which is now black.
All of our customers current fabric combinations will be NFPA certified with the new Crosstech® Black?
How about repairs?
Morning Pride will be holding proper inventory levels of the old White CROSSTECH® moisture barrier for repairs. Based on current steady consumption, the allocated inventory is scheduled to last for approximately 2 years. This may vary depending on repair orders received. We will keep you informed as to the progress of our inventory depletion.
The new generic technical spec for CROSSTECH Black is:
The moisture barrier shall be constructed of bicomponent membrane bonded to Nomex pajama check substrate (i.e., CROSSTECH Type 2F). The moisture barrier shall have a total weight of approximately 5.0 oz/yd². All components of the moisture barrier used in the garments shall be cut at the same time and from the same lot number to insure consistent quality. All components of the moisture barrier used in the garments shall be of the same type, as specified above, throughout the garments, except for neoprene coated materials used to protect the elbows from compression and steam burns. There shall not be any pre-cut or pre-assembled parts used in the garments.
This change does not affect any other categories of products such as gloves, EMS, technical rescue, footwear, etc. - those all remain the same CROSSTECH® products with which you are familiar. Each of those laminates is different and developed for a specific end-use.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Sales Rep or the office.
